Empowering and educating families in pregnancy and post partum
Is it safe to work out in pregnancy? What kind of exercises can I do? How often should I work out? These questions, and more, usually always come up during pregnancy. We want to make sure we're doing whatever is safe for our baby and our bodies. It's normal to be hesitant to workout, especially later in pregnancy!
Exercise in pregnancy is safe, healthy, and recommended. Research has shown that exercise during pregnancy:
Increases metabolic capacity, insulin sensitivity, muscle mass, and the use of fat stores to supply energy requirements
Provides an extended margin of safety for the baby
Can stimulate better than average placental growth and functional capacity
Can help the baby tolerate stresses of late pregnancy, labor, and delivery better than those whose mothers don't work out
reduces weight gain
helps a mother retain less fat, feel better, have shorter, less complicated labors
can shorten recovery
reduces backache, constipation, bloating, and swelling
can reduce the risk and severity of gestational diabetes
Even knowing all of these benefits, it can still be hard to figure out how to safely fit exercise into our pregnancy. I am available to help you figure out exactly how to do this!
